DLR's Quantum Computing Initiative (QCI) aims to develop and utilise quantum computers and to establish the quantum computing ecosystem in Germany together with start-ups and industry. In two innovation centres in Hamburg and Ulm, commissioned companies are working together with DLR working groups on the successful implementation of the initiative. In addition to office space, clean rooms, laboratories and workshops are provided for companies and research groups and operated by the QCI.
What you can expect
The job holder is responsible for the operational implementation of the respective projects in the assigned technological area with a focus on hardware as well as the implementation and monitoring of the associated orders, plans and projects.
Your tasks
Initiation of projects of the respective sub-area with DLR institutes, industrial partners as well as university and non-university research institutions, including bringing together the relevant stakeholders, reconciling different states of affairs and content-related ideas, and finding a common goal in terms of the project objective
technical requirements management for overall quantum computing systems or one of the hardware sub-areas, taking into account the progress of development
Evaluation and approval of the scientific and technical content and results of projects with regard to the overarching objectives of the quantum computing project and comparison with the scientific "state of the art"
Updating the financing, cost and time schedules in the event of deviations
Supporting public relations work on the projects in cooperation with the responsible OUs
Coordination of DLR interests with the interests of other partners, e.g. industry, scientific organisations by organising and leading technical meetings at working group level and preparing necessary decisions or mediating in the decision-making process
Preparing overarching status reports (content progress, schedule, costs) for the relevant sub-area
Your place of work is preferably at the Innovation Centre in Ulm, alternatively Hamburg or Cologne would be possible.
If you are fundamentally suitable, we will support you with internal and external training programmes to help you familiarise yourself with quantum computing.
Recruitment is based on the collective agreement for the public service (TVöD Bund) up to pay grade E14 TV EntgO Bund.
What you bring with you
a university degree (Master's degree / university diploma) in natural sciences (e.g. specialising in physics) or engineering (e.g. specialising in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering) or other relevant degree programmes (e.g. computer science)
Several years of knowledge in one of the specialist areas of hardware, software or applications in the research field of quantum computing
demonstrable experience in project management, knowledge of both industrial and research projects is desirable
demonstrable knowledge of business administration
Willingness to travel frequently, especially within Germany
Business fluent English and German language skills
