The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a highly qualified and motivated scientist, at the position of tenure-track Assistant Professor in Quantum Computing to join the Institute’s CaSToRC Centre on a full-time basis (100% FTE) at its premises at Athalassas’ campus. The successful candidate will work under the ERA Chair funded project QUEST: Quantum Computing for Excellence in Science and Technology, which aims to create a research group in Quantum Computing, with the ERA chair holder Prof. Karl Jansen and other members of his team and CaSToRC. As a team leader, the candidate is expected to play a key role in the successful completion of the QUEST project by developing and leading research projects in Quantum Computing, building and managing their own research group in this field, and strengthening collaborations with the corresponding group at the Center for Quantum Technology and Applications (CQTA) at DESY-Zeuthen in Germany, as well as with other local and international institutions. As a faculty member of the Cyprus Institute, the selected applicant is intended to enhance the competencies of the Institute in the area of Quantum Computing. They will implement and advance the research agenda of the Institute and CaSToRC in close collaboration with faculty, research staff and the leadership of CyI. An aptitude and/or experience in mentoring and teaching graduate students is necessary as the successful candidate will be expected to actively contribute to the Institute’s graduate program. Position Specific Responsibilities/activities: Particularly for the project:
Developing Quantum computing algorithms and methods including optimization and quantum machine learning algorithms, in particular QAOA; Benchmarking of quantum computing hardware; Developing models and applications in e.g. physics, chemistry, cryptography and engineering for quantum computing simulations and hardware; Supervising Ph.D. students and Postdocs; Supporting the ERA Chair and the Principal Investigator in scientific and organizational work, including acquiring third party funding.
Position Specific Required Qualifications:
Doctoral degree in Quantum Information, physics, mathematics, computer science, electrical engineering or equivalent areas.
Position Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of programming languages, such as C, C++, Julia or Python; Knowledge of Qiskit, Pennylane or similar programming languages; Experience in running on quantum computer hardware.
