Description
The Department of Computer Science in the School of Engineering & Applied Science at Yale University and the Yale Quantum Institute invite applications for one tenure-track or tenured faculty position in the area of quantum computing theory and algorithms. Applications will be considered at all ranks (Assistant/Associate/Full Professor). The anticipated start date for the position is July 1, 2027. Quantum science and engineering is one of five top priority areas identified in the University's Science Strategy Report and we have a vibrant and expanding community both in the Yale Quantum Institute and described more broadly at Quantum at Yale. Yale is engaged in a campus-wide investment in quantum science, engineering, and materials. Along with multiple appointments in these areas, the University has committed to, and has begun construction of, a new Physical Science and Engineering Building which will provide state-of-the-art facilities in quantum science, including quantum information science and quantum computing.
The successful candidate is expected to lead a vibrant research program, be an engaged member of the Computer Science Department, and will be expected to teach in the undergraduate and graduate curriculum. We are especially interested in candidates who can foster cross-disciplinary collaborations, including, but not limited to, those with the Yale Quantum Institute. Yale offers a stimulating intellectual environment with exceptional opportunities for groundbreaking research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and impactful teaching.
Qualifications
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Computer Science or a closely related field by the time of appointment. Candidates should have a strong and impactful publication record in theoretical computer science and/or quantum information theory venues. Candidates seeking a tenured appointment should also have a demonstrated track record of leadership, and evidence of substantial contributions to the field.
Application Instructions
Applications should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, research statement, and teaching statement. Candidates seeking an appointment without tenure should arrange for three confidential letters of recommendation to be submitted via Interfolio. Candidates seeking an appointment with tenure are not required to provide recommendation letters at this time. The teaching statement should describe the candidate’s teaching experience and explain how they would contribute to the undergraduate and graduate curriculum at Yale.
To ensure full consideration, please submit all materials by December 1, 2026. Review of applications will begin after December 2, 2026, and will continue until the position is filled. Contact Alicia Vignola (alicia.vignola@yale.edu) with any questions regarding the application.
