Summary:
The Quantum Technologies Group seeks a subject matter expert who can help grow MITRE’s quantum computing algorithms work program. The chosen individual will conduct research and provide technical expertise to help advise our various government sponsors on the potential utility of quantum computers for solving some of our nation’s most challenging problems.
Department Summary:
The Quantum Information Science, Optics and Imaging Department will provide innovative solutions to address new opportunities and challenges associated with these and other novel emerging technologies. We have a strong foundation of technical expertise across the broad spectrum of these technologies that our sponsors can draw upon to develop new capabilities as well as assess their vulnerabilities and respond to emerging risks. We are seeking expert staff to support expansion of our program in key areas for our sponsors.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Perform research in quantum computing algorithms, error correction/mitigation, benchmarking, and related areas.
- Advise and educate our government sponsors on all aspects of quantum computing and related quantum information technologies and their potential applications.
- Develop technical benchmarks, metrics, roadmaps, and other frameworks to help our sponsors better understand, plan for, and otherwise engage with quantum technologies.
- Explore other new or emerging technologies that may be of interest to MITRE and our sponsors.
Basic Qualifications:
- Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree without experience in Physics, Quantum, Computer Science, Chemistry, or related discipline; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
- Experience in one or more areas of quantum computing such as algorithm development, quantum error correction, NISQ/hybrid quantum algorithms, quantum machine learning, or quantum error mitigation.
- Strong technical writing and oral presentation skills.
- The ability to manage and pursue new opportunities to meet sponsor requirements in a collaborative environment with both internal and external researchers.
- Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a U.S. government security investigation and must be able to obtain a DoD Secret clearance.
