About the FSTM

The Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine (FSTM) at the University of Luxembourg contributes multidisciplinary expertise in the fields of Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Life Sciences and Medicine.

Your role
To this end, one PhD student will be hired to perform research in the domain of quantum computing applied to optimization problems with possible topics covering:
- Variational quantum algorithms for optimization
- Quantum annealing
- Quantum inspired optimization
- Quantum machine learning with a special emphasis on classical optimization of QML algorithms
- Noise mitigation in relation to optimization algorithms
- Other closely related topics
Your profile
- Master's degree in computer science, physics or a related field
- Advanced knowledge in the field of Quantum Computing
- Knowledge of Python
- Good communication skills and a collaborative mindset
- Full professional proficiency in English
Good to have:
- Hands on experience with at least one paradigm for quantum optimization with quantum computing (QAOA, Quantum annealing, etc.)
- Knowledge of quantum computing SDKs such as Qiskit or Pennylane

The yearly gross salary for every PhD at the UL is EUR 41976 (full time).
