TECHNICAL & MARKET ANALYSIS | Appended by Quantum.Jobs
BLOCK 1 — EXECUTIVE SNAPSHOT
This role is critical for transforming QuantumDiamonds from a heavily subsidized deep-tech project into a financially scalable enterprise. By establishing robust and compliant financial operations, the Working Student Finance function directly de-risks capital deployment, ensures governance during rapid expansion, and facilitates the transparent reporting required for subsequent, larger-scale private and public funding rounds. The capability to manage complex grants and support investor relations is paramount, bridging the gap between cutting-edge quantum sensor technology development and commercial market viability.
BLOCK 2 — INDUSTRY & ECOSYSTEM ANALYSIS
The quantum sensing sector, particularly in semiconductor metrology, faces a transition bottleneck from lab-proven physics to industrialized, high-volume manufacturing (HVM) tools. Companies like QuantumDiamonds, which utilize NV-center quantum sensors for non-destructive current mapping, inhabit a critical intersection of the quantum and classical semiconductor value chains. Financial infrastructure is often a workforce gap in deep-tech scale-ups, where the focus remains on TRL advancement. A dedicated financial role, even at the working student level, signifies a necessary institutionalization of corporate processes. The market structure dictates substantial capital expenditure (CapEx) for R\&D and manufacturing scale-up, making rigorous grant management and timely reporting essential for maintaining non-dilutive funding streams (e.g., European Chips Act related programs). Furthermore, the preparation of financial slides and fundraising materials acknowledges the continuous need for private investment in quantum ventures, which requires a financial narrative anchored in compliance (DATEV system proficiency suggests mandatory alignment with German regulatory standards) and projected scalability. Failure to professionalize financial operations can slow down critical investment cycles, hindering the company's ability to capitalize on the technology readiness level (TRL) advancements already achieved in quantum defect sensing.
BLOCK 3 — TECHNICAL SKILL ARCHITECTURE
This function centers on implementing and enforcing a scalable financial control environment, moving beyond basic accounting via technology integration. Proficiency in systems optimization, specifically ERP and automation tools (e.g., for expense and invoice management), is key to increasing transactional throughput without linear growth in administrative overhead. The requirement for supporting monthly bookkeeping and closing activities ensures data integrity and timely reconciliation, which underpins auditable financial statements necessary for external stakeholders like investors and grant bodies. Competency in grant lifecycle management—from submission support to detailed reimbursement tracking—translates directly into maximizing non-dilutive capital capture efficiency, a vital metric for deep-tech start-ups. Excel proficiency serves as the fundamental layer for complex scenario modeling and ad-hoc financial analysis used in investor communications, thereby enabling data-driven strategic decision-making at the CEO level.
BLOCK 4 — STRATEGIC IMPACT * De-risks future funding rounds by maintaining institutional-grade financial diligence.
* Accelerates non-dilutive capital realization through optimized grant management workflows.
* Establishes scalable accounting infrastructure compliant with German tax and regulatory mandates.
* Enables accurate, real-time financial reporting crucial for executive decision support in a high-growth environment.
* Reduces administrative lag time through implementation of finance automation and ERP integration.
* Improves investor confidence by contributing to professional and transparent fundraising documentation.
* Frees up senior leadership time from operational finance, allowing greater focus on core quantum technology commercialization.
* Creates a foundational layer for sophisticated financial planning and analysis (FP\&A) as the company matures.
* Ensures fiscal responsibility and alignment with best practices required for deep-tech governance.
* Directly contributes to achieving yield and cost-effectiveness targets by tracking R\&D expenditure against milestones.
