Photonic Test Engineer

Tasks
We are seeking a passionate Photonics Test Engineer to join the engineering team at LIGENTEC. The ideal candidate will be a passionate, collaborative team player with a strong understanding of Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs), enthusiastic about further growing through hands-on photonics testing, and committed to ensuring timely project delivery.
You help LIGENTEC grow further by taking ownership of:
- Internal and customer testing and characterization campaigns using state-of-the-art chip-level and Wafer-level testing facilities.
- Standard quality assessments of photonic integrated circuits (PCM measurements).
- Automated testing tool operations and maintenance tracking
- Ensuring that testing workflows are optimized for maximum efficiency, reliability, and scalability
- Assessing, generating and validating test and characterization plans.
- Analyzing and processing measured data to generate comprehensive synthetic reports for stakeholders.
- Providing up-to-date data on testing capabilities, daily operation tracking log, to assess the feasibility of both internal and customer project intake
- Establishing, owning and documenting the design rules of automated testing tools to ensure seamless integration of design-for-testability practices.
- Training tool operators on the chip/wafer-level testers for the standard quality assessment process of photonic integrated circuits.
- Communicating regularly with tool vendors and assessing new solutions for scaling test operations and infrastructure.
Furthermore, you support the team through:
- Smooth integration of the testing activities in the backend-of-line.
- Communication and collaboration between teams to support the successful execution and delivery of projects.
Requirements
- MSc or PhD in photonics or related fields.
- Minimum of 1+ years hands-on experience in hands-on optical testing of passive and/or active integrated photonics components in a leading university lab or a photonics company.
- You are passionate about measurements. Keen to grow further expertise in optical and electro-optical testing.
- Problem-solver with a results-oriented and a pragmatic mindset .
- Adaptable and thrives in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities.
- Strong focus on delivering work within set timelines to ensure project success.
- Collaborative and transparent team player and independent self-starter, capable of achieving both individual and group objectives.
- Excellent communication and reporting.
- Working proficiency in English.
- Experience with remote instrument control and automation using Python to interface with automated testing equipment.
- Experience with working in a clean-room environment, ensuring proper handling and processing of sensitive materials.
- Code versioning is a plus.
- Knowledge of Labview is a plus
- Experience with photonics packaging is a plus.
- Experience with electro optical testing (DC and RF) is a plus.
